The frisson of excitement evoked at the thought of being chased and the possibility of being caught, It brings the best out of a murderer.

-Salil Desai, ‘Murder Milestone’.

A serial killer Dr.Solanki convicted for 8 murders is given capital punishment by the state and is about to be executed in a few days wherein he makes a last wish to meet the officer who brought him to this fate. Inspector Saralkar, aware of Solanki’s notoriety, is not happy with the prospect but has to give in due to higher authorities pressure. On their meeting Solanki successfully convinces Saralkar that he did not perform murder of one of his victim and it was done by his protégé that has no mention or hint in the investigations. Although Saralkar is sure catching the person mentored by Solanki wouldn’t stop his hanging but the new clues and revelations festered by Solanki is too strong to let go. Hence the Inspector along with his subordinate jump back and reopen the 16 year old case along with a 3yr old missing person case of one of their own.

As the story proceeds shocking new facts that were overlooked previously come into limelight and more dead bodies are found with similar modish operandi. The killer aka shishya on the other hand is roaming freely making his murderous milestone.

The execution of the story and the introduction of each character is well thought for. None of the plots are dragged or unnecessary scenarios added to disturb your thrill as you walk page by page with the homicide detectives. The lives of Indian policemen and the criminal psychology especially in the cases of homicide and serial killing is briefly yet aptly narrated.
